ALWAYS LIVE & Frontier Present St Vincent – All Born Screaming Tour

One of the most innovative and fascinating presences in modern music, GRAMMY award-winning artist St. Vincent is thrilled to announce her long-awaited return to Australia this November with the All Born Screaming Tour.

Her first live appearances down under since 2018, St. Vincent (Annie Clark) will perform at two of the state’s most exquisite venues, in a tour exclusive to Victoria: St Kilda’s iconic Palais Theatre on Monday 25 November, and Ballarat’s newly refurbished, 149-year-old Her Majesty’s Theatre on Tuesday 26 November. The shows are proudly presented by ALWAYS LIVE, the state-wide celebration of contemporary live music supported by the Victorian Government through Visit Victoria, and Frontier Touring.

This tour follows the release of All Born Screaming, the seventh album from St. Vincent. The triple-GRAMMY-winning iconoclast’s first self-produced record, All Born Screaming is an invitation to test the limits of what is possible – and to then keep going. Featuring singles ‘Broken Man’, ‘Flea’ and ‘Big Time Nothing’ and brought to life with the aid of a highly curated roster of friends – Rachel Eckroth, Josh Freese, Dave Grohl, Mark Guiliana, Cate Le Bon, Justin Meldal-Johnsen, Stella Mogzawa and David Ralicke – the album is an unadulterated expression of St. Vincent’s singular vision

Artists

Annie Clark made her recorded debut as St. Vincent in 2007 with Marry Me, quickly becoming regarded as one of the most innovative and fascinating presences in modern music. Her subsequent albums would include Actor (2009), Strange Mercy (2011), her self-titled fourth album and winner of the 2014 GRAMMY for Best Alternative Album. In 2017, her fifth album MASSEDUCTION would break St. Vincent into the U.S. and UK top 10s and win two more GRAMMYs (Best Rock Song for its title track, and Best Recording Package).   2021’s Daddy’s Home found St. Vincent channeling the hungover glamor and gritty sepia-toned soundtrack of 1970s downtown NYC to an ecstatic reception, ultimately winning her a second Best Alternative Album GRAMMY. Following a 2021-2022 global tour that reaffirmed St. Vincent’s status as one of live music's preeminent forces with headline appearances at the likes of the Hollywood Bowl and Radio City Music Hall, Clark would begin work on album number seven: Her first fully self-produced album (having co-produced every one of her previous efforts), All Born Screaming is St. Vincent at her most primal.  Featuring Clark leading “a curated group of rippers” through the brawny “Broken Man,”  the mordant catwalk sashay through the deafening assault of self-loathing that is “Big Time Nothing,” the sublime, elegiac earworm “Sweetest Fruit," All Born Screaming is equal parts spiritual desolation and rapturous acceptance. “If you’re born screaming, that’s a great sign,” says Clark, “because it means you’re breathing. You’re alive. My god. It’s joyous. And then it’s also a protest. We’re all born in protest in a certain way. It’s terrifying to be alive, it’s ecstatic to be alive. It’s everything.”

Impressing triple j tastemakers and earning a coveted top-five finalist spot in their Unearthed High 2023 competition, 17-year-old singer/songwriter Lotte Gallagher is a stand-out talent amongst the country’s next generation of alt-rock stars.

An artistic soul with an air of blasé vengeance, Lotte’s sound is reminiscent of genre leaders Phoebe Bridgers, Angie McMahon and Courtney Barnett. A student at Northcote High, Lotte has immersed herself in art and music classes, fueling the creativity in her instrumentation and striking mature lyricism, as well as direction of her own visuals. Surrounded by music throughout her childhood, Lotte’s parents served as both inspirations and teachers while she found her passion for guitar and singing. Fully supporting her, in recent years they sold their second car to afford her studio time with a producer.

Lotte's 2023 debut 'Adam' encapsulated her bold arrival on the scene – fitted with punchy guitars and an indie lead riff, and backed by the lyricism and powerful vocal performance of an artist well beyond her years. On its official post-Unearthed release, 'Adam' quickly rose to a #1 most-played spot at youth tastemaker triple j. Produced by Holy Holy's Oscar Dawson, the two have formed a solid creative partnership. Their second co-lab Gray, an anthem in the making, was released in late February 2024 and added to triple j rotation within just 72 hours.

Signed to beloved independent label Liberation Records (earning a place alongside Vance Joy, Julia Jacklin, Alex Lahey and more), Lotte has also impressively signed deals with Mushroom Group’s Mushroom Management and Mushroom Music Publishing, as well as Lonely Lands Agency – securing a full suite of support teams who wholly believe in her.

For Mushroom 50 Live, Lotte joined forces with Gordi for a duet of Split Enz ‘Message To My Girl’, performing to a sold-out Rod Laver Arena and broadcast audience of 830,000 in a highlight of the evening, with “their breathtaking vocal harmonies providing a poignant moment before the big finale" (Double J). Herald Sun national music writer Kathy McCabe named Lotte one of the top 10 Australian musicians to watch in 2024 off the back of it.

Lotte has already secured coveted spots on Laneway Festival, St Kilda Festival, NYE On The Hill, Party In The Paddock, Bass In The Grass lineups and will support Canadian all-girl band The Beaches on their East Coast sold out tour, further signs of the strength of her live performance.

With her too-cool-but-I-care-too-much attitude, Lotte Gallagher is a force to be reckoned with – a phenomenal artist with the drive to become a true star of her generation.
