Dug By Us is a short and sweet new music podcast hosted by Cassie Walker and Chris Holland.

Bringing the weekly music podcast to the live stage, with the help at the team at Always Live, join Cassie and Chris in deep music conversation, with special live music performances.

Having provided the intro music for the Dug By Us podcast, Melbourne garage rock band The Naysayers will be the house band for the day, playing their iconic "(Don't Tread On My) Blue Shoes" live to introduce the show.

Hosted by absolute music nerds, these two music loving mates highlight new music every week, giving audiences the opportunity to sharpen their new music knowledge and discover their new favourite sound.

Having started the show in 2019, Dug By Us is a comfortable listen, filled with laughs, friendship and fun.

Artists

FLEWNT and INKABEE are a father-son Noongar Wongi hip-hop MC duo from Boorloo (Perth), Western Australia.

After writing his first rap at age seven, INKABEE shot into fame in December 2022, at just 11-years-old, with his debut track ‘Beat the Odds’ – co-written and recorded alongside his father, award-winning MC and activist FLEWNT.

After a huge international attention including praise from Chance the Rapper and appearance on AGT, the pair make their long awaited debut in Naarm. Accompanied by some very special guests bridging the East x West Coast scenes.

Just one of the many contributors to Melbourne’s vibrant and diverse music scene, The Naysayers have been performing in and around their home city for the better part of a decade.

The Naysayers’ early sound was heavily influenced by the garage rock artists of yesteryear and Melbourne’s garage renaissance of the 2000s. Over time, a new direction emerged. Songs would pop-up reminiscent of krautrock and post-punk of the 70s, only to be stored until the time was right. Following the release of their final garage album “Hellfire Sing Sing” in 2018 – that time came.

The Naysayers now create and perform music with a strong emphasis on immersive rhythms, entwining harmonies, and structures which grow and evolve. Imagine some combination of early CAN, In Rainbows era Radiohead, The Stone Roses, Eddy Current, and (somewhat wishfully) Brian Wilson.

Like their influences, The Naysayers’ music is wide and varied. An amalgamation of the sounds of the long-since and recently passed, along with something new. At its heart, they make songs they love performing in the studio and on the stage. The Naysayers draw from a large pallet, and if you’re into rock music in general, chances are you might hear something you like.

The Naysayers are Gordon, Harrie, Jakk, and Nathaniel.

The Naysayers

Celebrating a decade of musical artistry, Gretta Ziller marks the 10th anniversary of her debut single, Hell’s Half Acre, with a special re-release that honours the song’s pivotal role in shaping her career. This milestone not only commemorates the longevity of her career but also underscores the enduring impact of a song that set the tone for her musical journey.

Hell’s Half Acre was more than just Gretta Ziller’s first release; it was the catalyst for a transformative period in her life and career. Written during a time of significant personal and professional change, the song emerged as a response to the upheavals and uncertainties she faced while transitioning from her small hometown in regional Victoria to the bustling, vibrant cityscape of Melbourne. Inspired by a trip to Canada, where she encountered the name "Drumheller" and was captivated by the rugged beauty of the badlands, Ziller chose to infuse the song with the mystique and intensity of a more enigmatic title, Hell’s Half Acre.

This re-release is not just a walk down memory lane but a testament to Ziller’s journey of self-discovery and creative evolution. The original recording of Hell’s Half Acre captured the raw, unfiltered energy of an artist on the cusp of finding her voice. The narrative intertwines fiction with reality, drawing from Gretta’s personal experiences and real places, such as the Shady Pines Saloon in Sydney and encounters with a real-life Hells Angel member. The vivid imagery and emotional depth of the song have made it a cornerstone of Ziller’s discography.

Reflecting on the song’s creation, Gretta shares;

“Hell’s Half Acre was the song that clicked for me. It was a turning point where I found my sound and style. Everything I’ve written and recorded since has stemmed from the chance I took with this song.”

Revisiting Hell’s Half Acre now, a decade later, is a way for Ziller to honour the bold steps that have defined her path. The re-release not only celebrates the song’s past significance but also highlights its continued influence on her music today. It stands as a reminder of the power of embracing the unknown and the rewards that come from taking risks in the pursuit of artistic truth.

Over the past ten years, Gretta Ziller has built a reputation as a distinctive voice in the Australian music scene, selected twice for the Australian Music Prize Long List, two Golden Guitar nominations and amassing nearly 600,000 streams for her single ‘5,4,3,2,1’ on Spotify alone and of course, the releasing of 3 albums ‘Queen of Boomtown’ , ‘Judas Tree’ & ‘All These Walls’.

In addition to her musical achievements, 2023 saw Ziller as the first recipient of the Country Music Association of Australia (CMAA) Academy of Music Scholarship, an honour that coincided with her third album release, ‘All These Walls’, and a performance at Americana Fest in Nashville.

As she continues to explore new creative horizons with “The Long & Writing Road”—a challenge of 52 co-writing sessions in 52 weeks—this re-release of Hell’s Half Acre serves as both a celebration of her past and a beacon for the future. Hell’s Half Acre the Anniversary Version is out today.
