Eat, Play, Stay in The Dandenong Ranges

Get lost in the tranquil surrounds of Victoria’s gorgeous Yarra Valley & Dandenong Ranges.

By Always Live

Famous for its lush treetops, Olinda Falls, the historic Puffing Billy, 1000 Steps Walk and even for its local wizard (Baba Desi), The Dandenong Ranges are only 90 minutes out of Melbourne by train, meaning it’s the perfect destination for a day trip, midweek escape or a (long) weekend.

The tight knit community of Belgrave will welcome ALWAYS LIVE’s celebration of the suburbs to its glorious streets on November 23 for End Of The Line. Before getting amongst the action at End Of The Line, head out to the ranges to take in everything this gorgeous region has to offer.

There’s heaps to explore just out your front door, and we’ve curated a few of our favourite spots to get you started.

Cameo Cinemas

Discerning cinephiles will be delighted by Cameo’s 8 screens (including an outdoor cinema that operates from December to March every year), which showcases an eclectic mix of mainstream, blockbuster and quality arthouse films every week.

Micawber Tavern

Enjoy British inspired gastro pub fare at century-old Micawber Tavern while taking in the stunning surrounds of Belgrave’s old growth forest and Clemantis Creek. Pop in midweek for their food and drink specials or visit for their annual Oktoberfest celebration and enjoy a beer in their picturesque beer garden.

Olinda Country Cottages

Offering fully self-contained accommodation for groups of up to five, Olinda Country Cottages are a quaint escape from the hustle and bustle of #citylife. Owner operators Wally and Kathy welcome guests like old friends, offering personal touches and local knowledge to your mountain escape.

The Railyard Saloon

Coffee shop by day, bar and live music venue by night.

The Railyard Saloon has been serving brews to the Tecoma community for several years, beginning its life as a general store and morphing into a bar in 2018. Hosting live music most weekends and serving the frostiest drinks ‘til late, their keen community focus has seen the venue become a true local hangout for their neighbours. Drop in to experience a slice of mountain life!

Sherbrooke Falls walk and picnic area

Giant ferns, bird calls, fallen logs, babbling brooks, fresh air: Sherbrooke Falls Walk is the perfect setting for a revitalising jaunt in nature. Just a short, mostly flat roundtrip from either Sherbrooke Picnic Ground or O’Donohue Picnic Ground, makes it a great option for families, or if you’re a solo wanderer - pop on our VIA VIC playlist, or stream PBS 106.7FM online to keep you company!
